Enlisted Kempston Barracks. His Medal record states Bedfordshire Regiment (4th Special Reserve)

Private 30946.

His grave states: 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment.

Killed in action 11 July 1918, age 26, in Bucquoy, France.

Buried: St Amand British Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France. Ref. IV.A.20.

Inscription in Potton Cemetery Memorial Plot E30/31. No longer readable, but Potton History Society records Frank Munkman,

  1. Did a bit of looking into Frank. 30946 if a Bedfordshire number and it would appear he trained with the 4th battalion before transferring to the 1st Battalion the Hertfordshire Regiment. Did you see he and his brother are listed in the National Roll of the Great War Section 5? Their name is spelt Monkman. I also see from the Absent voters lists of 1918 Frank and Francis are listed as Chequers Square Potton. Francis is serving as a Sapper 155553 128 Field Company Royal Engineers. let me know if you want copies of the documents I have quoted. Sorry if you already have this information
